Let’s just unpick this wine’s name: “Bodega” – spanish for wineshop or grocery store. “Agerre” – the name of the family that make it. “Txakoli” – a very green and fresh type of wine made in three appellations in the Basque country, in Northern Spain.

Now we’ve translated the name, let’s dive into the bottle. The Atlantic climate means the vineyards are humid, mild and wet. The vines are grown over 2 metres high for ventilation and sun exposure to ensure grape ripening in the cooler climate. They are also grown on a hillside sheltered from the vicious Atlantic winds. The result is a sharp, crisp and delicate wine with racing acidity which goes superbly with Basque food. The green fruit in here gives a nod to the equally famous dry cider produced in this region.

And like the cider, it is recommended to pour this from a great height to improve your drinking experience. The force with which the wine splashes into the glass aerates the wine and brings effervesence and flavour to the fore! Just watch for spillages…you won’t want to lose a drop.
