It’s RED. It’s RICH. It’s GOOD…
The Antonins were monks who inhabited the château for 500 years from the 13th century onwards. Religion, wine, they seem to go hand in hand, I mean, we all know about the famous monk Dom P. Well actually these Antonin monks weren’t working in the Bordeaux heat tending to vines, instead they gave their service to those who suffered from ergotism, a poison ingested from eating rye. Luckily we’re dealing with grapes not grains and the blend here from winemaker Antoine de Roquefeuil is quite excellent. Well you’d expect nothing less from a man with a name like that.
The vineyard still has many religious buildings intact but the vocation is mother nature rather than all seeing creator nowadays with the family having moved to sustainable farming. We’ll be honest here at BOTTL, we’re not always fans of Bordeaux wine, we feel its a bit dated and musty but this has the richness of the classic style but a vibrancy that might just draw us back to the left and right banks of the Garonne. Get cracking!
