To qualify as ‘Vin Méthode Nature’, a wine has to be made from hand-picked grapes that are certified organic. Domaine Montille has been going since the 18th century and they combine that fine heritage with a consistent desire to improve their farming which has seen them use organic practises from 1995, move to biodynamic viticulture in 2005 and finally be granted certified organic status in 2012.
The Monthélie Rouge comes from two parcels situated in the village of Monthélie, between Volnay and Meursault (standing on the shoulders of giants). One parcel on steep sun kissed slopes brings the brightness and vibrancy we love in pinot noir and the other parcel from rich clay soils adds the body to the wine. From the nose to the palate this wonderful wine is a classic pinot noir with ripe and crunchy blackcurrants and raspberries. Although a definitive fresh wine the quality of this wine means it pairs beautifully with light and rich dishes.
