It’s RED. It’s JUICY. It’s GOOD…
A delicious food wine from Portugal that goes superbly with the black pig it is named after. Porco Preto (black pig) is famous in Alentejo and although extra fatty and rich, it is said by the locals to be healthy given the acorn diet the pigs live on. Everything in moderation of course.
The Herdade do Peso estate has an eco-friendly winery set in the gentle rolling hills of the southern Alentejo, their own personal reservoir and an olive grove dating back to Roman times. The cooling Atlantic winds make this area a little more bearable during the summer than most of southern Portugal. Nevertheless there is heat in the wine but harvesting at night, a cold soak and fermentation in steel tanks, ensures that this wine still has a vibrancy of flavour and smoothness on the palate. Expect juicy blackberries, black cherries and plums. This is what we mean by a crowd-pleaser. Whip up a feast, plonk this in the middle of the table, sit back and indulge like a Roman.
