Ever have a rioja that just falls flat in the mouth? Full of spice and vanilla that you just can’t taste the fruit anymore? Want something that is a pure expression of the fabulous Tempranillo grape? Us too! This wine uses altitude and the limestone soils of Alavesa to produce a Rioja for the modern day. It still has the depth and dark fruit you desire from a bottle of Spain’s (arguably) most famous wine, however the care with which this grown (300 separate small parcels), harvested (by hand in 15kg boxes so as not to destroy the bunches) and fermented (10% malolactic fermentation in new french oak barrels, 20% four months ageing in old french oak barrels, the rest in stainless steel on fine lees). The result is smoothness, roundness and ultimate purity of fruit flavour. Dark Cherry and blackberry are complemented by acidity and minerality derived from the high altitude of the vineyards and the chalky soils the vines grow in. Beautiful vibrant Rioja!
