It’s WHITE. It’s JUICY. It’s SUPERB…
This is not just any Sauvignon, this is barrel fermented Sauvignon from South Africa! We aren’t huge fans of the super acidic new world Sauvignon that lines supermarket shelves and it turns out nor is Samantha O’Keefe, the winemaker at Lismore. Instead she’s taken this often ‘marmite’ grape and made an incredible wine: balanced, smooth, juicy. Retaining the minerality of the sauvignon and the gorgeous fruits such as guava, gooseberry and pear; by barrel fermenting this for a long period of time in old oak barrels and using batonnage (a technique where the lees, the dead yeast cells, are mixed around in the wine) to give extra creaminess and body, Samantha has created an incredibly elegant wine. It really has to be tried to be believed. I think it is the wine that can finally bring Sauvignon lovers and haters together – it’s truly magical.
