It’s RED. It’s JUICY. It’s SUPERB…
This translates as screaming rock and refers to the cliff next to the famous El Bulli restaurant where staff used to let off steam. Their former sommelier David Seijas is behind Gallina de Piel, a winemaking venture which has also delivered the delicious fresh white we have here. This red wine is a blend of Grenache and Carignan grapes. Both are grown separately and fermented separately. The Grenache goes through a stainless steel fermentation with 10% of the grapes in whole bunches meaning stems left on. This gives an extra depth and crunchiness to the wine – not literally of course, they filter the stems out before bottling! Meanwhile the carignan is fermented in french oak. Both grapes go through malolactic fermentation to bring a smoothness to the wine with the grenache also being left on the lees to add extra body. The result when blended is a very ripe red fruit burst of juicy goodness, fine tannins and pleasing acidity.
